Species preservation

Life sciences applications to offset species extinction due to habitat loss

We help with

Animal cell & tissue banking

Knowledge transfer of best practices established for human cells for procurement, processing, characterisation and storage, and sourcing of enabling technologies for species-specific requirements.

Application of biotechnology to exotic species

Assessment of state of the art understanding and progress in most closely related animal species to innovate biotechnology solutions suited for species challenges.

OUR EXPERIENCE

Animal cloning

“Solo”, Europe´s first pig cloned from an adult somatic cell by nuclear transfer at the Roslin Institute, Scotland.

As a venture capital funded group leader I led the embryology team at Roslin Biomed innovating basic and applied science that culminated in Europe´s first cloned pig, and advances in cloning of mice and transgenic sheep for xenotransplantation, as well as understand developmental failure of cloned animals.

Supporting not supplanting

Biotechnology does not supplant the need to protect against loss of habitats, but has a vital role today to preserve species at risk of extinction.
